Mode Balance

Mode Balance

Mode balance is the count of placements in cardinal, fixed and mutable signs, showing how a chart tends to operate.

Mode balance counts placements as cardinal, fixed or mutable, and it describes tempo rather than content. A cardinal-heavy chart starts more than it finishes. A fixed-heavy chart holds a course and resists redirection. A mutable-heavy chart adjusts continually and can be hard to pin to one plan. A thin mode shows where help is needed: little cardinal means waiting for a push, little fixed means trouble seeing things through, little mutable means difficulty bending. Use the same weighting as for elements, counting the Sun, Moon and Ascendant more heavily than the rest.
