Cardinal Mode

The three modes describe how a sign operates rather than what it cares about. Cardinal signs open each season: Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. They start things, set direction and prefer to be the moving part rather than the part being moved. A chart weighted in cardinal signs usually shows initiative, a taste for new projects and impatience with a situation that has settled. The weak point is the long middle of any undertaking, where nothing is beginning. A chart light in cardinal signs can maintain and adapt well while waiting longer than it needs to for someone else to start.
