Why the Moon changes signs every two to three days

The Moon is the fastest-moving body astrologers track, orbiting Earth roughly once a month and passing through a new zodiac sign every two to three days. That's a completely different pace from the Sun, which spends about a month in each sign.

Because of that speed, your Moon sign needs your birth date at minimum, and your birth time matters most if you were born close to the day the Moon changed signs, within a day or so on either side of a sign change, the exact hour can decide which sign you get.

Does your Moon sign need an exact birth time?

Usually not as urgently as your rising sign does. Since the Moon holds a sign for roughly two and a half days, your birth date alone is enough to land on the right sign the large majority of the time. You only need a precise time if your birth date fell on, or right next to, the day the Moon actually changed signs.
