Arabic Parts (or Lots) are calculated sensitive points, like the well-known Part of Fortune, derived from formulas combining two or three chart positions. Because they map relational geometry rather than physical bodies, they open a window into how distinct facets of your chart intersect and reinforce each other.
Arabic Parts History
Despite the name, Arabic Parts didn't originate in the medieval Islamic world. Their lineage traces to Hellenistic astrology in Egypt and the Mediterranean, where Greek astrologers called them Kleroi, or "Lots," a reference to casting tokens of destiny. Early practitioners recognized that the geometric relationship between two planets could create its own point of focus on a chart, distinct from either planet alone. The system reached its fullest expansion during the medieval Islamic Golden Age, when scholars working in centers like Baghdad's House of Wisdom translated Hellenistic texts into Arabic and catalogued dozens of specialized Lots, formulas for nearly every life theme, from vocation and lineage to health and rivalry. As astrology shifted toward a psychological discipline in the 20th century, these calculated points were kept for their structural utility rather than treated as omens, and the Part of Fortune remains the most widely used today.
