Definition
A pair of numbers from 1 to 6 describing a person's life role and learning style in Human Design. A 2/4 profile, for example, blends the Hermit and Opportunist archetypes.
What it means
The two numbers come from the line activated at the same gate position in two separate calculations, the conscious (personality) and unconscious (design) charts, roughly three months apart in real time. Each line from 1 to 6 carries its own archetype: 1 Investigator, 2 Hermit, 3 Martyr, 4 Opportunist, 5 Heretic, 6 Role Model. The first number tends to describe a more consciously expressed trait, the second a more unconsciously operating one, and the combination describes how someone characteristically learns and shows up in the world.
How it shows up in a chart
Profile sits alongside type and authority as the third major layer of a Human Design read: type describes energy mechanics, authority describes decision-making, and profile describes the role someone tends to play in relationships and how they best absorb experience. A profile with a Hermit line, for instance, tends to need private withdrawal time regardless of what its paired line adds on top.
A worked example
4 SEPTEMBER 1981 · 21:47 · HOUSTON Beyoncé's profile is 2/4. The 2 (Hermit) line describes a natural, often talented pull toward solitary work and mastery developed away from an audience, one that then gets called out by others rather than sought out. The 4 (Opportunist) line describes influence and opportunity built through a close network of fixed relationships rather than broad, impersonal reach. Together, the profile describes a pattern of gift-honed-in-private meeting a network that brings it forward.
