This is the technique's defining conversion: a 5° bound governs 5 years of life, a 12° bound governs 12 years, and so on — degrees translate directly into years with no separate allotment table to look up. Because the five bounds in any sign are rarely the same width, the years you spend under each ruler vary as you move through the walk.
