Birthday Number

Definition

A minor numerology number taken directly from the day-of-month a person was born, reduced to a single digit. It describes a specific talent or inclination layered on top of the broader Life Path number.

What it means

The Birthday Number is the simplest of the core numerology numbers to calculate: it is just the birth day reduced to a single digit (a birth day of 4 through 9 stays as is; a two-digit day like 23 reduces to 5). Because it comes from only one part of the birth date, it is treated as a minor, supporting number rather than one of the three or four major numbers, Life Path, Expression, and Soul Urge, that anchor a full numerology reading.

How it shows up in a chart

The Birthday Number is generally read as a specific natural talent or inclination that colors how the broader Life Path number gets expressed day to day, rather than a separate life direction of its own. It is one of numerology's cycle numbers, alongside the Pinnacle numbers, that describe a particular facet or period rather than the whole picture.

A worked example

4 AUGUST 1961 · HONOLULU Barack Obama was born on the 4th, giving him a Birthday Number of 4. In numerology, a Birthday Number 4 is generally read as a natural inclination toward organization, discipline, and steady, methodical effort, a specific talent layered on top of his broader Life Path 2 of partnership and diplomacy.
