Drive and power are at war. These people meet domination, first from others and then in themselves, and the resulting pattern involves rage that frightens them, contests that go past the point of sense, and a physical intensity that has nowhere useful to go. Violence, of the self-directed or outward kind, is the extreme failure mode and worth naming plainly. The aspect also produces extraordinary capacity when the force is given a proper channel: athletes, surgeons and campaigners who have made a working peace with an engine most people do not have.
