Rashi

Western astrology fixes 0° of Aries to the spring equinox and tracks the seasons, the tropical zodiac. Vedic astrology instead calculates your Rashi against the sidereal zodiac, anchored to the actual, observable star constellations, so your placement often lands a sign earlier than its tropical equivalent.

Ayanamsha

Because Earth's axis slowly wobbles, the tropical zodiac drifts against the fixed stars by roughly one degree every 72 years, a gap that stands at about 24° today. The Ayanamsha is the correction Vedic astrology applies to keep every placement tied to the real sky rather than the seasonal calendar.

Nakshatra

The Moon travels the full zodiac in roughly 27.3 days, so the ancient rishis divided the ecliptic into 27 lunar mansions called Nakshatras, each spanning 13°20' of arc and governed by its own ruling planet, deity, and elemental drive. This lunar layer reads your inner motivations and instinctual conditioning in far finer detail than a Rashi alone.
