The D9 is a strength test, not a second chart
Your D1 (main birth chart) shows where a planet sits by sign and house. The D9 Navamsa checks whether that placement holds up: a planet that looks strong in D1 can turn out weak once you see its D9 placement, and a planet that looks weak in D1 can turn out quietly strong in D9. In Vedic astrology, the D9 is considered second in importance only to the D1 itself, specifically because it functions as this kind of confirmation.

How the division works
Each 30-degree sign in your D1 chart is split into nine equal slices of 3 degrees 20 minutes each. Which slice a planet falls into determines its new D9 sign, so two planets in the same D1 sign can land in very different D9 signs depending on their exact degree.
This builds on your D1, not on Raman or KP
The D9 shown here is calculated from a Lahiri-ayanamsa D1, the same base used by sidereal-chart and vedic-kundli. It doesn't apply the Raman ayanamsa (raman-ayanamsa-chart) or the KP sub-lord system (krishnamurti-kp-chart). Those are different lenses on the D1 itself, not divisional charts.
