Strategy
Definition
The way a person's Human Design type is meant to engage with life. Each of the five types has its own strategy: Generators, for example, are designed to respond rather than initiate.
What it means
Strategy is the practical, action-level counterpart to type: where type names what someone is, strategy names how that type is meant to move through decisions and opportunities without forcing outcomes. Generators and Manifesting Generators respond to what's already in front of them; Projectors wait for recognition and invitation before sharing their guidance; Manifestors inform others before acting, so their initiations land more smoothly; Reflectors take a full lunar cycle to sample a decision before committing to it.
How it shows up in a chart
Strategy is read directly off type, so it is not a separate placement to calculate, but it is the piece most directly testable against daily experience: working with or against one's strategy is described as producing a distinct signature feeling, satisfaction versus frustration for a Generator, or the not-self themes that show up when a type consistently overrides its natural mode of engagement.
A worked example
4 SEPTEMBER 1981 · 21:47 · HOUSTON Beyoncé's type is Generator, so her strategy is to respond: to let something concrete show up first (an offer, a question, an opportunity) and let her Sacral center's yes-or-no response guide the next move, rather than starting from a cold initiation. For a Generator, strategy and authority work together closely, since the Sacral response that drives the strategy is, for most Generators including Beyoncé, also the authority making the decision (see hd-authority).
