Human Design Authorities
Emotional Authority sits in the Solar Plexus and is the most common authority among Generators and Manifesting Generators. Decision-making here is not reliable in the moment — a reactive high or low clouds judgment — so the guidance is to let feelings cycle through to neutrality before committing to anything major, whether that takes hours or several days. What looks like indecision from the outside is actually the wave completing itself.
Sacral Authority sits in the Sacral Center and is fast, instinctive, and immediate. The body registers a response before the mind has finished forming an opinion, showing up as a clear "uh-huh" (yes) or "uh-uh" (no) when a direct question lands. This authority is designed to guide response in real time rather than long deliberation — the gut reaction is the decision, not a data point to be reasoned around afterward.
Splenic Authority sits in the Spleen Center and is the most instinctive authority in the system, tracking what is safe and true from one moment to the next. The spleen speaks quietly and only once — it does not repeat itself the way an emotional wave or a recurring thought might, so the guidance is to catch that first, quiet signal as it arises rather than waiting for a confirmation that will not come.
Ego Authority sits in the Heart Center and is built around willpower and authentic desire. The guidance is to trust a genuine sense of "I want" or "I don't want," speaking that intention aloud rather than rationalizing around it — this authority is about personal will and honest commitment, not about what looks reasonable to anyone else.
Self-Projected Authority sits between the G Center and the Throat and depends on hearing oneself think out loud. Clarity here comes from speaking a perspective to a trusted listener, or even alone, rather than reasoning silently — the act of speaking is what crystallizes what is actually true, not a decision made in advance of the conversation.
Mental Authority sits in the Ajna Center and is one of the rarer authorities, appearing in charts where none of the more direct authorities — Emotional, Sacral, Splenic, Ego — are cleanly defined. Decisions here emerge through discussion and the weighing of options out loud with trusted people, not through solitary reasoning; hearing an idea reflected back often tests it more than thinking it through alone.
Lunar Authority is exclusive to Reflectors, whose chart has no center consistently defined at all — the entire chart shifts with whatever is in the surrounding environment on a given day. The guidance is to let time itself do the deciding: a full lunar cycle, about 28 days, sampling how a choice feels as the Moon moves through all 64 gates before committing to anything significant.
